Satellite TV had arrived in India just under 10 years ago

which dealt with women friends, working women, forbidden love and other such themes. It was all quite different from what TV audiences were used to but they were loving it.That’s when Ekta Kapoor walked into the Star Plus office with her different story ideas.

Different is a mild term. Ekta’s serials were traditional,melodramatic and a throwback to another era altogether,when mothers-in-law were nasty and wicked and daughters-in-law cringe-makingly subservient.So out of sync with the nation’s modern, progressive psyche,cried the critics. There was overall consensus that with sagas like Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and Kahani Ghar Ghar Kii,TV had regressed by 20 years.

As a film producer, she has some very unconventional, interesting films to her credit. Be it the racy Love, Sex Aur Dhoka with its experimental theme and format, the unusual Shor In The City, the gritty gangster film Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai, or the just released, bold The Dirty Picture, her foray into films has revealed a new, improved Ekta. A no-holds barred interview with the new Ms Kapoor.

I think they (police) have the CCTV footage from the restaurant and that will prove everything,Saif said.

The actor was accompanied by girlfriend Kareena Kapoor and her sister Karisma, Malaika Arora Khan and her sister Amrita with her husband Shakeel Ladak and Bilal Amrohi, a producer. Malaika said: "Saif has given his statement, and I'm happy that he got a chance to give his side of the story. We want people to know that it wasn't a one-sided brawl."

Who initiated the brawl is still a mystery that needs to be solved!

Megastar Amitabh Bachchan was tonight discharged from hospital

after a 12-day stay post his abdominal surgery. "The actor is doing much better now following which he has been discharged," a hospital source told PTI.

Last night, Big B had tweeted, "Freedom ! free from central line, free from all kites, free to sleep without precaution... Now await to be free from hospital !.

Bachchan, who has a history of stomach ailments, was operated on February 11 at the Seven Hills hospital.

He had complained of acute abdominal pain and there were chances of him undergoing a second operation. But later it was decided by the doctors that another surgery was not required as the 69-year-old actor was getting better.

who has been accused of assaulting an NRI businessman, says the brawl is not a "publicity stunt" and he feels sorry for what has happened.The 41-year-old actor was arrested and released on bail last night after Indian origin South African national Iqbal Meer Sharma complained that Saif had assaulted him at the Taj Mahal hotel in the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday.

At a press conference here for his upcoming film Agent Vinod, Saif said, "This is not a publicity stunt (for the film).I hope this matter gets sorted out soon," he said, reiterating that he could have handled the situation in a better way but it didn't happen.

"I feel sorry for what has happened," he added.The incident took place at the Wasabi restaurant in the hotel where the actor was accompanied by his actress girlfriend Kareena Kapoor and her sister Karisma, Malaika Arora Khan and her sister Amrita with her husband Shakeel Ladak and Bilal Amrohi, a producer.

Saif has filed a counter complaint against Sharma, saying that he acted only in defence after the businessman's father-in-law hit him and the duo abused the ladies with him. He claimed innocence saying the charge against him was "false".

Cup in an Anamika Khanna creation, a red sari teamed with Amrapali jewellery. She was wearing a heavy neck piece along with delish earrings and bracelet.

Sonam has been invited by French designer Jean Paul Gaultier for his show in Paris whose creation she had donned during the premiere of ‘Players’ in Dubai. Sonam has also been invited to Lebanese designer Elie Saab’s show and an exclusive dinner at his residence. Sonam’s spokesperson confirmed that Sonam will be attending both the shows.

Katrina Kaif hit it off with the Pakistani pop icon Ali Zafar during their shoot of ‘Mere Brother Ki Dulhan’ and ever since the two have wanted to cut out a music album together. Though Ali has already composed the songs and Katrina has approved them, Katrina hasn’t found time as yet to record the numbers. Ali had wanted Kaif to be part of the composing process, but their schedules didn’t allow it.

Veena’s co-star Vedita Pratap shares cold vibes with her and she has accused Veena for purposely injuring her on the forehead during a shoot scene. In the scene, Veena had to pull Pratap by the neck and bang her head on an iron rod and Veena did so with a bit too much of ferverity. Vedita had to be nursed at a city hospital and is said to be currently undergoing treatment to get rid of the scar on her forehead.

It was an action sequence. I was supposed to be beaten up. I don’t know what happened to Veena. She actually hurt me and she did it so badly that I had nail marks on my body.

Salman Khan is known in Bollywood

Salman Khan is known in Bollywood for his softer side despite a tougher outer appearance. He has done his bit for the society through his charitable organization ‘Being Human’. This time the actor has offered a helping hand to those jail inmates who have completed their jail term but are still rotting in confinement because of poverty or inability to pay the jail fine.

Being Human organization has written to the jail authorities offering to pay the fine for some 400 inmates so that they can claim their freedom. The jail authorities have now sent the letter to the legal section. Jail authorities are awaiting clearance from the administration and once all permissions are granted, Salman’s foundation will submit about Rs 40 lakhs that will be used to set free about 400 inmates in jails across the state of UP.

EMAET is the story of two strangers who get drunk one night in Vegas and wake up the next morning to find themselves married to one another. The film is said to be inspired from a Hollywood flick but Imran denied any similarity to it.

Balan,who transformed into a sensuous dirty diva in her last flick The Dirty Picture has shot a lavani item song for the the upcoming movie Ferrari Ki Sawaari. However those who are expecting a skin show from Vidya like the Munni Badnaam Hui’ or ‘Chikni Chameli item number will be disappointed because the stills of the number doing rounds on the net show Vidya clad in a Maharashtrian sari from neck to ankles. She is seen sitting chirpily atop huge dhols in the first look stills of this song which is titled Mala Jau De’.

Ferrari Ki Sawaari has been produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra who shares a special relation with Vidya being the one who gave a dream debut to the actress with his production Parineeta. The movie is directed by Rajesh Mapuskar and stars Sharman Joshi in the lead role. The film is set to hit the theatres in April this year.

Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan

Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan has landed into troubled waters. The actor got into a scuffle with South African NRI businessman Iqbal Sharma, who is also the director general and CEO of the Trade, Industry & Investments of South Africa, and was also arrested Wednesday along with his teo friends, Shakeel Ladak and Bilal Amrohi. He was charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code for allegedly assaulting Sharma in the Taj Mahal Hotel around 1 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Saif has now been released on bail and complains that his friends, including girlfriend Kareena Kapoor, were abused and he was assaulted.

There was an ugly incident last night (Tuesday) where my friends and the ladies with us were abused and I was assaulted. I was hit and I defended myself,Saif said in a statement.

Now,Saif has also filed a complaint and says,I have been to the police station to answer the requirements of law as I am a law abiding citizen. I have also filed a complaint about what happened last night and I am confident justice will be done.

I have seen the interviews given on TV and they look like decent people and I cannot believe that the same people were so aggressive the night before and the lies that they are saying about me with such straight faces. I think they have the CCTV footage in the restaurant that will prove everything.

Boman Irani has made his critics

Boman Irani has made his critics and fans swear by his acting skills. Now, his son, Kayoze, is all set to debut in Bollywood with Karan Johar’s next project titled ‘Student of the Year’. Kayoze got his brush with film making as an assistant director in the recently released, Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu.

Abhishek Bachchan had recently that they had chosen a name for their daughter and were waiting for Amitabh Bachchan to be back from the Seven Hills hospital before they could announce the name.

Abhishek stated,We’ve got a name, and I’ll announce it very soon, but in terms of releasing a photograph you know.if people see her in everyday life that’s fine by me, but I just think releasing the photograph is a very pompous thing to do. We don’t believe in any ceremony in terms of naamkaran.
